Mental Health, Counselling and Welfare Advice

The prevalence of Mental Health Issues and stress related conditions in this country is high, despite this, there are still many taboos around the subject. Patients are often unable or unwilling to talk to their family, friends or GP / Nurse.

The fact is that GPs and Nurses see a very large number of people with Mental Health Issues ranging from mild depression or anxiety all the way through to more serious conditions and are very experienced at putting patients at ease.

Your GP will be able to refer you on to an appropriate specialist service if you require further treatment. At the surgery we have visiting therapists who offer Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and a Mental Health Link Worker holds sessions at the surgery every week. You will need to be referred to these services by your GP.

Patients who are worried or anxious about their personal finances, debt problems, benefits issues etc can be seen on Wednesday mornings at the surgery by a trained Citizens Advice Bureau Counsellor. It is possible to attend on a “Walk in” basis but you may have to wait, or by phoning the CAB office on 01394 286 009 you will be able to book an appointment.
