About appointments in general

 

Like other surgeries, it can sometimes seem difficult to get an appointment with the GP you want, at a time that you want. We aim to ensure that there are appointments available both for patients to be seen immediately and for those who wish to book ahead. We also offer telephone consultations and telephone call backs from our GPs which many patients find convenient.

 

Telephone consultations can be used as an alternative to a face to face consultation in certain circumstances where a problem can be resolved with brief advice. For example: queries about medication, sick notes, initial queries about symptoms/side effects. A telephone consultation can often prevent the need for a visit to the Doctor or, (see below) can be used to"triage" an appointment request i.e. for the Doctor prioritise when patients are seen according to need. Patients will always be offered a face to face appointment when necessary.

Same Day Appointment requests

 

If you phone up asking to be seen on the same day, you may be asked by the receptionists for information about your condition. As a surgery, we operate a system of telephone consultations and telephone call backs for patients, for same day appointment requests a GP may well call you back to discuss your condition with you, if you need to be seen the GP will book a same day appointment with you.  The request for information about your condition is to allow the GPs to prioritise calls in terms of clinical need. We appreciate that some patients may well feel uncomfortable with this, and you are perfectly free to decline to give such information, however please be aware it may make it more difficult to offer you an early appointment.

 

Same Day Appointment requests-after 3 pm

 

Walton, Howard House and Haven Health Surgeries are now working in collaboration to provide GP and nurse appointments based at the Minor Injuries Unit in Felixstowe Community Hospital. If you call your surgery after three pm for a "same day" problem you will receive a call from a GP or nurse

based at MIU. Depending on the day , it could be a GP or Nurse from a different surgery but one of the three listed above. If you need to be seen, you will be asked to attend at MIU. The GP or Nurse will have full access to your medical record but you will need to give your consent to this.

 

Booking in advance

 

We try very hard to ensure that appointments can be booked as far in advance as possible for your convenience. This should typically be between four and six weeks ahead, according to circumstances.

 

How to make an appointment

 

There are several different ways to make an appointment at Haven Health Surgery:

 

  • Appointments can be booked on the phone by speaking to a receptionist between 0800 and 1830 any day Monday to Friday.

You can also book appointments online  - 

  • Please firstly request and collect your online registration details from the Surgery.    The log in details provided will be the same for booking appointments and ordering repeat prescriptions.

 

 

  • On your first visit to the Patient Access website you will need to REGISTER your details, please input the information requested including your choice of password and security question.

 

  • Once these details have been accepted, you will be able to log in to your own Patient Access page and book appointments and order repeat prescriptions.

 

Telephone Call Backs

 

You can phone and request a call back from a named GP. This is a non-urgent service and you will receive your call at the end of the GP’s surgery on an allocated day, according to when that particular GP is working.

 

 

"GP Plus" Appointments 

 


                                                                      

Suffolk GP is for people who need a doctor’s appointment or are unable to see their GP during normal GP hours.Appointments can be made via Reception during our usual opening hours.  

Please note: patients cannot refer themselves to this service-you must call the surgery.The service is staffed by local Suffolk GPs and Nurse Practitioners in Ipswich, Felixstowe, Stowmarket,

Leiston and Wickham Market and is an NHS service delivered by the Suffolk GP Federation.You will be given a booked appointment and will be seen by a suitable local GP or nurse who will have

access to your medical records (once consent is given).
