A professional practice with the personal touch
Haven Health Surgery was founded in 1991 and initially operated from small shop front premises leased from Safeways. Quickly outgrowing this site, we moved to a purpose built building located behind Safeways (now Morisons) in 1997 as the list size grew quickly to 6, 500 patients. The surgery building has recently had a new extension added giving us more consulting rooms and a new minor surgery suite. Many of the staff group who were with us at the very beginning are still with the practice and along the way others have joined the practice and stayed with us.
We aim to offer a personal, friendly and welcoming service to our patients and as a team to strive for excellence in the clinical care we provide through our commitment to train and develop our staff, innovation and the continual evaluation of our services.
Haven Health is a training practice. We train GPs and also Medical Students at various levels in their education. We do this as an investment in the future generations of Doctors who will work in the NHS and also because we feel that by creating a learning environment in our surgery patients will benefit. Please regard our GP Trainees as an extension of our services. You will always be asked for your consent in the event that you are offered an appointment to see a trainee. Appointments with trainees are generally longer than routine GP appointments.
From time to time, for training purposes, GP Trainees are required to videotape their consultations with patients. Patients will ALWAYS be asked for their consent for this to take place and there is absolutely no pressure on patients to consent, the right to refuse will always be respected.
The surgery offers the following services:
- Phlebotomy (in house technicians for taking blood)
- Minor injuries
- Joint Injections
- Minor Surgery
- Travel Health
- Childhood Immunisations
- Ante-Natal Care
- Health Visitor Service
- Management of Chronic Diseases
In addition there is a Private Osteopathy Service and Private Chiropody. These services are hosted on surgery premises but not actually directly provided by Haven Health.
Our facilities/Disabled Access
There is a surgery car park. It is located via Grange Farm Avenue, go up the hill after the supermarket and turn right past the church and continue to the very end. Patients use the car park at their own risk. The car park is locked at nights due to the risk of vandalism-please ensure that you exit the car park before we close, which is usually at 6 30 pm. We ask that patients use the car park appropriately and safely, especially respecting the disabled access parking slots.
Disabled Access Toilets
There are disabled access toilets in the surgery waiting room. These are located to the left of the main reception desk.
Disabled access –generally
The kerbstones at the edge of the patient car park are suitable for wheelchair access to the premises. Unfortunately at the present time we do not have automatic access doors, however disabled patients should feel free to phone reception and request assistance in advance of their visit. There is a path leading up to the surgery from Morrisons Supermarket which can be negotiated by powered mobility wheelchairs.
High backed Chairs
There are a number of high backed chairs with arms, suitable for patients who have limited mobility. These are located to the right of the main reception desk.
Patients with impaired hearing
We do not at present have an induction loop system. We recommend that you take a seat in the right hand area of the waiting room so that you will hear your name being called by the surgery staff.
Patients with impaired vision
We will try to provide any of our printed materials in a format which suits your visual abilities. Please let us know if you have difficulties accessing our materials and we will try to help.
